Hi, I’m Craig Jackson, a born-and-raised Texan with roots in DeSoto, Texas. I graduated from DeSoto High School in 1988 (right in the sweet spot for Gen Xers) and kicked off my college journey at Abilene Christian University before eventually finding my way to the University of North Texas. College wasn’t a straight shot for me—I took a little detour to serve in the Navy Reserves before coming back to finish my degree at the University of North Texas.
From there, I headed to Baylor Law School, and in 1997, I hung out my shingle as a family lawyer. I’ve been board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2004, which means I’ve seen just about everything under the sun in the world of family law. Additionally (for better or worse), I have handled business disputes, real estate issues, criminal cases, personal injuries—you name it.
While I love trying cases, over time, I realized that the truth about the practice of family law—no matter whether you win or lose, when you try a case, everyone’s a loser. That’s not just a line I heard from a family therapist. The emotional, physical, and financial cost of fighting a divorce or custody suit from its inception through trial is rarely worth it, even if you “win.” When you lose, it only adds insult to injury.
These days, I’m all about helping folks resolve conflicts without the stress and expense of a courtroom fight. Mediation gives people the chance to find solutions that work for them and their families, and I’m honored to be a part of that process.
As for my life outside of the office, I live in Trophy Club, Texas, with my wife of 27 years, Katy. We’ve raised two fantastic kids, Savannah (who, despite my warnings, is in law school) and Drake (who, despite my warnings, thinks he wants to go to law school after college), and life around here is busy but good. When I’m not working, you might find me playing a very cool telecaster very badly, tinkering on a 1967 Ford f-100, or recording an episode of the The Shady Lawyer Podcast, the world’s premier legal podcast for the lawyer, law student, and layperson, alike. If you’re into that sort of thing, you can find us at shadylawyer.com.
